Nicobond, part of the Nicolls & Clarke Group, is supporting the UK’s top apprentice tilers as they train with WorldSkills UK in preparation for competing at two international skills competitions next year: EuroSkills Graz in Austria and WorldSkills Shanghai in China.
WorldSkills UK, the leading education and skills charity, is responsible for managing the UK’s entry into the EuroSkills and WorldSkills Competitions, which sees apprentices from Europe and across the world compete to win Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in their skill. Using the insight gained from international best practise in skills development at the competitions, WorldSkills UK works with education, business and governments to raise standards in apprenticeships.
Donating materials, Nicobond is providing vital support to the apprentices as they train with the aim of securing the one place available to represent the UK in Wall and Floor Tiling at WorldSkills and EuroSkills.
The apprentices in training are:
- Dylan Calvert (Southern Regional College, Northern Ireland)
- Odhran Connolly (Southern Regional College, Northern Ireland)
- Dylan Gillanders (Southern Regional College, Northern Ireland)
- Morgan Swift (City of Glasgow College, Scotland)
All were selected to join the training programme after they excelled in the Nationals Final in Wall and Floor Tiling, run in partnership with CITB, at WorldSkills UK LIVE 2019.
David Forbes, Chairman of the Nicholls and Clarke Group said: “We are delighted to support the apprentices competing to represent the UK in Wall and Floor Tiling. We are committed to maintaining the highest level of professionalism and standards, and we are honoured to support the young talent who are striving to showcase their abilities on the European and global stages. We wish Dylan, Odhran, Dylan and Morgan the very best and look forward to following their journey.
Paul Doran, a lecturer at Southern Regional College, has devised the training programme for the apprentices.
Paul said: “We are extremely grateful for the support of Nicobond and we will work with them to deliver a comprehensive training programme. The apprentices have a challenging journey ahead, but they are determined to show just how talented the UK’s tilers are.”
