CONSTRUCTION OUTPUT INCREASED BY 1.8% IN 2025

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published estimates of Construction Output for December 2025. The data shows that annual construction output increased by 1.8% in 2025 compared with 2024; this is the fifth consecutive year of annual growth.

At the same time, total construction output is estimated to have fallen by 2.1% in Quarter 4 (Oct to Dec 2025) compared with Quarter 3 (July to Sept 2025); new work and repair and maintenance both fell by 2.6% and 1.5%, respectively.

Monthly construction output is estimated to have fallen by 0.5% in December 2025, this follows an upwardly revised decrease of 0.8% in November 2025 and a downwardly revised decrease of 1.6% in October 2025.

Total construction new orders fell by 3.8% (£469 million) in Quarter 4 2025 compared with Quarter 3 2025; this quarterly decrease came mainly from private commercial new work and private industrial new work.
