Employees at leading tile distributor Verona have raised more than £5,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support after cycling the entire length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
A twelve-strong team braved the challenge, which started in Liverpool and ended in Leeds and took in 91 locks and some spectacular scenery along the way.
Katy Harris, marketing director at Verona, says: “Cancer has affected all our lives in one way or another, so this year we’ve chosen to support Macmillan as our charity of the year. As our offices and warehouse are based next to the canal in Leeds, someone suggested cycling the full length of the canal as a way to raise money. I’m not sure we all realised that it was 127 miles long when we accepted the challenge!
“It was physically very tough and there were a few falls and punctures, not to mention saddle sores, but team spirit and the thought of beating our £5k fundraising target kept us all going, so we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us.”
Money raised by the team will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, which provides vital support and advice to cancer sufferers and their families.
