Help students prepare for WorldSkills 2017

TTA member businesses have been urged to support the young fixers who are training for the WorldSkills competition in Abu Dhabi in 2017.

The three competitors for the wall and floor tiling UK squad are Jack Radford from New College, Nottingham, and Kieran Magee and Armondas Tamulis from Northern Ireland’s Southern Regional College.

The TTA and member businesses are supporting the competitors in the run-up to Abu Dhabi. Schluter Systems are the main sponsors of the UK squad, and BAL have agreed to supply the adhesives for their training sessions.

A large number of tiles are also required. TTA member businesses who would like to donate tiles are asked to call the TTA on 0300 365 8453 or email support@tile.org.uk

Required for the first training session are:

  • 460 white tiles
  • 200 red
  • 40 brown/black
  • 180 green
  • 300 light
  • 48 blue
  • 50 yellow
  • 75 black

Tiles in each colour must be the same size and seconds cannot be used as the variation in sizes is too great when working within WorldSkills parameters.

Call the TTA on 0300 365 8453 or email support@tile.org.uk if your business can help.

After training sessions with Paul Doran from Southern Regional College, the three squad members will compete in March next year for the one place to represent the UK in wall and floor tiling at WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017.
