Headlam Group plc has announced the acquisition of TTA member Domus.
Domus is a major tile supplier into the specification sector, and includes Battersea Power Station, Heathrow Terminal 2, the new American Embassy, Foyles flagship bookstore and Wembley Stadium amongst its recently completed projects.
Headlam is Europe’s largest distributor of floorcoverings with its HQ in Coleshill, Birmingham. The company comprises 62 wholly-owned businesses located in the UK and Continental Europe, each operating under its own trade brand and utilising its own sales capability.
This is the company’s 62nd acquisition. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and has sales of almost £700m and employs over 2,300 people.
What it is looking for with the acquisition of Domus is an opportunity to extend its activities into ceramic tiles as a product category, while also significantly enhancing its exposure and involvement in the commercial specification sector where it is significantly underrepresented. Domus has a market-leading position in both these areas
Domus’s clear and ambitious plans to continue its growth in tiles and the engineered flooring sector, while extending its geographical footprint in specification across the UK and internationally, tie in exactly with Headlam’s own plans for growth
Jon Newey, Domus’s chief exective, says: “For Domus, it’s business as usual and, led by the same team as a distinct business unit of Headlam, the business will continue to focus on its key markets, customers and product set and retain its agile, responsive and service-orientated approach. New opportunities utilising our existing base will be provided by the partnership with a wider footprint and further showrooms planned as we continue our long history of expansion and progression.
“After 17 years of private ownership, this business, that has been led and managed by its founders and key senior colleagues, is moving into an established, secure and dynamic environment that is certain to provide precisely the type of support and capability that will enable Domus to build on its market-leading position.”
Meanwhile it has also been reported that Kidderminster-based flooring group Victoria plc has acquired Spanish tile maker Grupo Keraben in a deal worth £246.5 million. This is the latest in a series of takeovers mounted by Victoria plc to expand its operations in the UK, Europe and Australia.
