TTA PUSHES FOR INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ON WATER STAINING OF TILES

Published 27th April 2021 / General

TTA continues to be fully involved in the work of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) throughout the pandemic, and meetings are held via Zoom. Although work has been delayed, ISO TC189 WG1 and WG4 (Working Groups) are currently developing test criteria for water staining of ceramic tiles.

TTA is represented on the ISO by Brian Newell, who is pushing for minimum performance standards to be incorporated, following “complaints about this problem from our members and also raised within the EUF (European Union of National Tile installer Associations).”

He says: “The Working Groups have made good progress regarding a test for water staining of wall and floor tiles and we should have a draft Standard later this year. Following an ISO voting process involving the member states, the Standard should then be fully ratified by next year, which would mean that all first quality tiles would need to comply with the test.”
