TTA is marking the retirement of David Talbot (left) and Martin Lindsay (right) after many years of much valued service.
David Talbot was the Vice Chair of TTA’s Technical Committee, has been an active member for many years, and has generously agreed to remain on the Committee during his retirement voluntarily. David represents TTA at the UK Slip Resistance Group and will continue to do so. He was a Board Director of TTA until his retirement.
As a qualified Design Engineer with over 30 years of experience in the ceramic tile industry, including most lately more than a decade with Craven Dunnill, David has worked on the most technical and challenging of award-winning projects all over the UK and globally not only from a specification and technical point of view but also from a practical production perspective.
Martin Lindsay, a lead member of TTA’s Training Committee, will be standing down as he has also retired from specialist tiling contractor N&C Moderna, where he had worked for over 32 years as a Director, having originally suggested the concept to David Forbes, CEO of Nicholls & Clarke Group, and then being involved in setting the business up.
Martin played a key role in setting up Trailblazer Apprenticeships, and was Chair of the Trailblazers Working Group. In this role, he helped shape and develop the Level 2 Standard for Wall & Floor Tiling into what it is today.
Looking back, he says: “I think this work was so worthwhile, for the benefit of the tiling industry as a whole and to help develop the new generation of tilers. It was also very enjoyable, meeting and working with people from across the sector, who all do such a splendid job, and who constantly provide opportunities for me to learn something new about the trade. It has been very rewarding.
“It has also reinforced to me what a necessary association TTA is. I believe it is important for more people to join!
“With the right level of commitment, it is still possible to earn big money in this trade, despite the challenges that we all face and the fact that main contractors are undoubtedly becoming more demanding, especially around issues such as health & safety and sustainability. That is why we need TTA to help our members keep on top of the latest requirements from the industry.”
