After four years volunteering as the Chair of TTA’s Sustainability Working Group, David Kong is handing over the reins to Will Fleming, Mapei’s Sustainability and Environmental Manager. TTA wishes to thank David for the hard work and enthusiasm he has brought to the group as it welcomes Will into his new role.
Since it was founded in 2022, TTA’s Sustainability Working Group has developed a coordinated industry response to help member companies on their individual sustainability journeys and provide leadership for the tiling sector. This sets out TTA’s vision to ‘take a leading role in achieving sustainability in the tiling sector, helping our members and the wider industry play its part in achieving Net Zero by 2050’.
With David Kong at the helm, the group has led a number of research projects, from identifying 41 good reasons to choose tiles to conducting qualitative surveys which show that TTA members want to be more sustainable. It has also shared key advice and resources, freely available from TTA’s website. This includes case studies showcasing how manufacturers, contractors and distributors can take initiative on environmental matters, as well as practical guidance on issues like regulatory policy and EVs.
The group comprises professionals from across the sector – including tile distributors, retailers, importers, contractors, adhesive manufacturers and logistics providers. To further strengthen its representation, particularly in regard to tile manufacturing, TTA invites members to join the group by contacting membership@tile.org.uk.
In addition to his industry experience as an experienced environmental manager with a deep understanding of working with energy, production, and waste, Will holds an honors degree in Environmental Studies, NEBOSH Environmental Management Diploma and is a certified ISO auditor.
