JACKON by BEWI, owner of the market-leading JACKOBOARD® brand of construction boards and tiling backerboards, has announced that Colin Higham, Managing Director, has left the business to take early retirement.
Colin founded the business as Tilebacker Ltd in 2012 to distribute JACKON’s JACKOBOARD® range of insulated boards and tilebacker products throughout the UK and Ireland. In 2017 the business was rebranded as JACKON UK and continued to develop alongside JACKON’s Building Systems product range.
During Colin’s time as Managing Director, JACKOBOARD® has established itself as one of the UK market leaders in the tile backerboard sector. Insulated tile backerboard has increasingly become a market requirement, due to changing regulations and heightened awareness about sustainability and energy efficiency. JACKOBOARD® uniquely has managed to provide all the benefits of a premium tile backerboard at a cost-effective price for both distributors and specifiers.
The company has also used consistent and effective trade marketing, including regular trade advertising, participation in trade shows and sponsorship of TTA Awards, to maintain and develop a dynamic brand image and also to develop the premium tile backerboard market itself.
Colin leaves a wealth of industry experience within the company, including Jess Banks on the JACKOBOARD® side and Richard Douglas, Glenn Kiely and Miguel Jaen within the Building Systems business.
Michael Hailwood, who has been with the company for five years as Director of Construction Board Systems, is now appointed to the role of Business Unit Director – BEWI, encompassing Building Systems and management of the Lancashire site.
He says: “I am very much looking forward to the challenge of consolidating the market leading position of JACKOBOARD® in the UK and also further developing the potential for the JACKON by BEWI Building Systems range, which has massive potential in the UK. Mostly I want to extend my thanks from myself and the team to Colin Higham for developing the market enormously during his decade at the top of our company. I trust that he enjoys his retirement!”
