Drama graduate, Emily Bolton, is setting the stage for a major role as EMC Tiles’ new marketing manager.

The appointment is a significant development for the highly successful Nottingham-based, family run firm, which has recently expanded its operations to include a new trade and retail outlet in Leicester and has a growing internet presence, which has boosted its national and international status.

Emily, who was born in Australia, moved back to the UK with her family at a very young age and grew up in The Park in Nottingham. She was educated at Bramcote Park Comprehensive School and Bath Spa University, where she graduated in Drama Studies.

She says: “My drama background may seem a little unconventional for a career in marketing but it has given me the confidence to react effectively with clients and customers from all backgrounds. I’m also passionate about interior design, which may be helped by my appreciation of stagecraft and arranging scenery. I also owe a lot to my father, who is a doctor and a highly skilled DIY enthusiast, who specialises in huge projects like barn conversions.

Emily, who is 30 and lives with her husband and two dogs in Sherwood says: “I don’t just see tiles as objects but as vital ingredients in people’s aspirational designs. They have unrivalled potential to influence the successful outcome of all projects.

“I’m especially enthusiastic about the latest generation of wood and stone look alike tiles in hardwearing porcelain, with a quality that just has to be seen to be believed. I first developed an interest in marketing when I graduated from university and went to work for the family business – a cosmetic skin clinic. It was here that I learned that I actually had a knack for writing engaging copy and content creation, and decided that a creative career was for me.”

EMC Tiles was founded in 1979 and from small beginnings in a Sherwood shop is now one of the UK’s leading suppliers of ceramic tiles and associated products.

Managing director, Barry Slawson said: “We are delighted to welcome Emily on board. EMC Tiles has reached the fortunate stage where we need a full time marketing manager to oversee our trade and domestic operations. Our new showroom and warehouse in Leicester, plus our recently opened trade centre of excellence in Nottingham and our internet trading means that we can now fully exploit and develop all these exciting new possibilities.

“It is an expression of our confidence in the future of EMC Tiles as an increasingly important player on the regional, national and international stage. We think Emily is the ideal person to spearhead that.”
