HOMEBASE SAVES BATHSTORE FROM ADMINISTRATION

A part of the Bathstore chain has been saved from administration, following acquisition by Homebase. The DIY chain has confirmed that it has acquired 44 of the 135 stores which were part of the Bathstore portfolio.

As well being a major contender in the bathroom ceramics market, Bathstore is a significant tile retailer, offering wall and floor tiles, mosaics, trims, adhesives and grouts, with several hundred different product lines in each category. Amongst the company’s customer service offers are design and installation services.

Homebase has sought to add capacity to its own bathroom offering. The acquisition involves the website and all remaining stock, in addition to the 44 stores, so considerably strengthens the company in this area.

It is understood that Homebase will also open a number of Bathstore concessions within its own stores in the coming months. It is also thought likely that the Bathstore website at www.bathstore.com will continue to trade independently from the retailer’s main website. The website is already indicating ownership by Homebase Rooms Ltd, a newly created company.
