PRECISION TILING NEWPORT TRANSFORMS KITCHEN EXTENSION WITH ULTRATILE PRODUCTS

Published 26th February 2026 / General

Precision Tiling Newport undertook a substantial flooring and tiling project involving the redevelopment of an existing kitchen and the installation of a newly built rear extension. The homeowner wanted to transform the original 14sqm kitchen into a modern 37sqm space ready for the imminent installation of a new fitted kitchen. UltraTile products were used throughout to ensure a durable, level, and aesthetically seamless finish.

Project overview

The job required merging two separate substrates: the old kitchen floor – which had several large cracks across the surface – and a newly poured liquid screed extension. The final design called for large-format 900 x 600mm Mandarin Stone porcelain tiles laid in a brick-bond pattern, finished with matching dark-grey grout and silicone.

The site remained active throughout the project, with roofers and plumbers passing through the area daily. All works had to be completed within a strict five-day period.

Substrate preparation and floor levelling

The first challenge was creating a single, consistent floor surface across the two areas. Precision Tiling Newport began by preparing and priming the existing kitchen substrate using ProPrimer, ensuring optimal adhesion.

To bring the old floor up to the exact height of the new extension, ProLevel Ultimate floor leveller was applied. This high-performance smoothing underlayment was used to fill gaps, correct irregularities and provide a smooth, stable base.

Tile installation

With the substrate prepared, Precision Tiling Newport could turn its attention to tiling the area using the large format porcelain tiles. For maximum bond strength, ProFlex SP and ProFlex SPES adhesives were selected.

Shuan Cooper of Precision Tiling Newport praised both adhesives, sharing: ‘They are both fantastic products and easy to mix. They are very easy to work with and a rapid adhesive that doesn’t crust over after 15 minutes is a bonus!’

ProFlex SP rapid set, and ProFlex SPES standard set adhesives are suited to projects that demand flexibility and performance. Both products are S1 classified under EN 13004, offering high deformation capabilities that allow them to handle movement with ease. This makes ProFlex SP and ProFlex SPES a suitable choice for challenging substrates like timber floors and underfloor heating systems, where flexibility is key to long-lasting results.

The tiles were laid in a brickbond format, achieving a visually striking and contemporary finish that perfectly suited the new kitchen design.

Grouting and finishing

Once the tiles were set, the installation was completed using ProGrout Flexible in Dark Grey. Shaun described the grout as ‘the best I have used’, noting its smooth application and excellent colour. Matching ProSealer silicone in Dark Grey was applied to provide a consistent, durable finish.

Available in 14 gorgeous tones to suit all designs and tastes, ProGrout Flexible is suitable for use with all tile types and can be washed down easily with minimal effort. Designed for areas where movement and vibration is likely, ProGrout Flexible is suitable for joint widths up to 20mm, is mould resistant, and will set in just 12 hours.

Furthermore, ProGrout Flexible has been developed using ColourShield Technology – a process which involves the addition of a specialist additive for lasting colour protection.

Challenges

Working around multiple trades and protecting freshly laid surfaces required careful planning. Protective boards and matting were frequently repositioned to maintain access while safeguarding the new installation. Despite these constraints – and the pressure of a five-day deadline – Precision Tiling Newport delivered the project on schedule.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates how careful preparation, high-quality materials, and professional expertise can bring together two spaces into one seamless floor. UltraTile products played a critical rose in meeting the technical demands and tight schedule.
